Whilst Iqon seem like the new kids on the block, you may be surprised to learn the brand’s deep-rooted history within aggressive skating. Starting life as ‘Disroyal’, they hosted the famous Bindlach open, created OUT skates, Pawn protective equipment and even had their own superhero in published comic books. Literally legends. Fast forward to today, 20 years or so later, Disloyal launched the original brand Iqon with an ambitious line of products fit for the most ambitious skater. The Iqon AG10 fits absolutely in that category.
What is the AG10?
Imagine a sleek and sexy boot with a robust and solid feel. Kevlar and reinforced textures combine to create a perfectly proportioned finish. Trying them on finds your foot hugged and supported. Moving around is fast and responsive and grinding is delicious. This is the AG10.
Technical details
As Iqon’s premium aggressive boot there are some features that make it superior to the AG20. The Carbon fibre shell is reinforced with kevlar to ensure it can handle every street test possible. The same is true of the carbon fibre cuff, which is a world-first in aggressive skating. This benefits you if you need maximum control over the skates and enhanced responsiveness.
The Prime liner uses the latest technology from MyFit ensuring the rigid boot is combined with maximum comfort. The MyFit foam is fully heat mouldable for bespoke fitment with reinforced areas around the calf and ankle for extra support.
Each shell size is fully independent, meaning it is not shared with other sizes (like the AG20 and most other models on the market). This creates better fitment for all foot sizes and shapes meaning you can reduce the amount of bulk by purchasing your regular shoe size. Less bulk is less fatigue and higher performance.
A MyFit raised heel insole and shock absorber provide support and shock absorption. The insole provides support for both flat feet and high arches (though we prefer to use the skates without the provided insoles for better fitment). The shock absorber is chunky and effective, raising the heel slightly for a better skating position and softening any landings.
The injected soul plate provided is the same as found on the USD VII and Gawds skates, so the quality is well documented. Fast and controlled.
Between the boot and soul plate is a dampening pad, which provides energy transfer and sound absorption, an essential element to landings often overlooked.
BIG wheels?
If you use a big wheel setup like Wizard/NN/Roka frames you may find this next feature quite interesting. The boot is UFS compatible when you take the soul plate off. This allows you to attach a frame directly to the boot. Combine this with the carbon fibre cuff and removable liner (so you could choose your own), the AG10 is a legitimate contender for big wheel skating, with elite performance possibility.
Summary
The sharpest skates on the market and it’s not all in the details (though they are pretty good too). A dark aesthetic offset with hints of bronze for a professional finish to match its performance potential. The Iqon AG10 is an exceptional offering from a brand entering the boot market for the first time.
*Included in the box is an extra buckle and side protector and all sizes are unique shell sizes.
